Vermont Air National Guard Deploys 150 Troops and 10 F-16s to Japan
BY Lisa Friedman
Vermont Air National Guard, based in Burlington, is deploying 150 troops and 10 F-16 Fighting Falcons to Japan. The 158th Fighter Wing is nicknamed ‘The Green Mountain Boys’ after our heroes who fought in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War and the Spanish-American War.
The Green Mountain Boys is a very proud name in Vermont which commands much respect. In 1997 the men and women of The Green Mountain Boys earned the highest score ever earned by an Air Defense Unit.
These soldiers will be based in Okinawa to help our Japanese allies with issues such as disaster relief, piracy, ‘global situational awareness’, and to provide security in the Asia-Pacific area. Please join me in sending your well wishes to Vermont’s brave servicemen and servicewomen.
